When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for
about half an hour.
I then saw the seven angels who stand before God, and
seven trumpets were given to them.
3 Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden bowl for burning incense. He
was given a large quantity of incense to offer up, along with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar which is before the throne.
4 The smoke from the incense,
together with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the angel’s
hand.
5 Then the angel took the golden bowl, filled it with fire from the altar, and
threw it on the earth. There followed crashes of thunder, rumbling, lightning
flashes, and an earthquake.
6 The seven angels holding the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.
7 The first angel blew his trumpet. There followed hail and fire, mixed with
blood, and they were thrown to the earth. One third of the earth was burned
up, one third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned
up. 8 The second angel blew his trumpet. Something like a huge mountain
burning with fire was thrown into the sea. One third of the sea became blood, 9 one third of the creatures living in the sea died, and one third of the ships
were utterly destroyed.
10 The third angel blew his trumpet. A huge star fell from the sky, flaming like a torch. It fell on one third of the rivers and on the springs of water. 11 The
name of the star is “Wormwood.” One third of the water became bitter
wormwood, and many people died from drinking the water because it was
made poisonous.
12 The fourth angel blew his trumpet. One third of the sun was struck, one
third of the moon, and one third of the stars, so that a third of them were
darkened. So there was no light for a third of the day and for a third of the
night. 13 Then I looked, and I heard an eagle flying above, calling out loudly,
“Disaster, disaster, disaster for those who live on the earth, because of the
remaining trumpets which the three angels are about to blow!”

Revelation
[1600]
The series of trumpets culminates in the great, final event of this age, the visible Second
Coming of Jesus and the resurrection of the faithful dead of all the ages. This event is detailed in 11:15-
18 (cp. 1 Cor. 15:23; 1 Thes. 4:13-17; Lk. 14:14; Dan. 12:3).
