Revelation

The fifth angel blew his trumpet. I saw a star from heaven that had fallen to the earth. He was given the key to the passageway to the abyss. He opened it and smoke went out of it like smoke from a huge furnace. The sun and the air were darkened by the smoke. Out of the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like that of scorpions. They were told not to hurt the earth’s grass or any green plant or any tree, but only the people who did not have God’s seal on their foreheads. They were not given permission to kill anyone, but to torture them for five months. The torture was like that of a scorpion when it stings a person. During that time people will seek death, but will not be able to find it; they will want to die, but death will escape them. The locusts looked like horses prepared for war. On their heads were something like golden crowns, and their faces looked like men’s faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. They had breastplates looking like iron, and the noise made by their wings sounded like many horses and chariots charging into battle. They have tails and stingers like scorpions, and in their tails is their ability to inflict pain on people for five months. They have as king over them the angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon. The first disaster is now past, but two disasters are still coming after these things. The sixth angel blew his trumpet. I heard one voice coming from the horns on the four corners of the golden altar which is before God, saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet: “Free the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates!” Then the four angels who had been held ready for that hour, day, month and year were freed to kill one third of humanity. The number of soldiers on horses was 200 million; I heard their number. This is what the horses and their riders looked like in the vision: The riders’ breastplates were red like fire, dark blue like smoke, and yellow like sulfur. The horses’ heads looked like lions’ heads, and fire, smoke, and sulfur came from their mouths. One third of humanity was killed by these three plagues — by the fire, the smoke and the sulfur which came out of their mouths. The power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, because their tails are like snakes with heads which inflict harm. The rest of humanity, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood, which cannot see, hear, or move. And they did not repent of their murders, their magic arts and drugs, their sexual immorality, or their thefts.
