James

Come now, you rich, weep and wail loudly over the miseries that are coming to you. Your riches have rotted away and your clothes have been eaten by moths. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have chosen to hoard treasure. Listen! The pay you withheld from the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of those who harvested have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived in earthly luxury and indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the upright person; he did not resist you. So then, brothers and sisters, be patient until the lord’s coming. See how a farmer patiently waits for the precious produce of the earth until it receives the early and late rains. So you too be patient and make your hearts strong, because the lord’s coming is near. Brothers and sisters, do not complain against one another so that you may not be judged. Look, the judge is standing at the door! You have the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as an example of patience in suffering, brothers and sisters. See how we regard as blessed those who have patiently persevered. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and you know the outcome for him from the Lord, because the Lord is very kind and merciful. Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But your “yes” should mean yes and your “no” should mean no, so that you may not fall under judgment. Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any happy? They should sing praises. Are any among you sick? They should call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will restore the sick, and the Lord will raise them up. If they have committed sins they will be forgiven. So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The energized prayer of the upright is very powerful. Elijah was human like us, and when he prayed earnestly for no rain, it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Then he prayed again and it rained and the land grew its crops. My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you goes astray from the truth and someone turns him back, know that whoever turns a sinner back from going astray into error will save that person from death and cover a great number of sins.
